How can a contemporary extension strengthen the character of a 1930s home?

For this distinctive 1930s home in Rijswijk, Crafted House designed a corten steel extension that creates a careful dialogue between old and new. The warm rust coloured steel refers to the original brickwork, while the shape of the extension takes cues from the bay window at the front of the house. The result is a contemporary addition that feels deliberate, connected and rooted in the character of the existing home.

The extension was also designed in mirror image for the neighbouring home. Although the exterior appearance is identical, the differences in interior design and garden layout give each project its own character.
