How can a 1920s home be renewed without losing the atmosphere built up over time?

For this 1920s home in Oud Rijswijk, Crafted House created a full renovation, interior design and sustainable upgrade. The house was reworked into a warm family home and working studio, bringing together historic character, natural materials and contemporary detailing.

Throughout the renovation, original elements were carefully revealed and strengthened. Existing brick walls were brought back into view by removing parts of the plasterwork, adding texture, depth and a direct connection to the history of the house. These raw surfaces are balanced with refined materials such as quartzite, dark timber veneer, natural stone tiles and a classic herringbone timber floor.

The interior combines warmth and contrast. Dark bespoke cabinetry, steel doors, natural stone and soft lighting create a calm but expressive atmosphere. Every material was chosen for its tactile quality and ability to age beautifully over time.

As both private home and studio, the project reflects the way Crafted House approaches residential design: thoughtful, personal and carefully made. Architecture, interior, material choices and daily use come together in a home that feels layered, warm and quietly refined.
